Party animals invited to benefit Catoctin Zoo,louis vuitton handbags
Saturday at the Faux School in downtown Frederick. The adult only event will be a fashion show with a zoo like element featuring live animals. Its proceeds will go to the Global Wildlife Trust, the nonprofit board of directors that oversees the Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo in Thurmont.
Since January, a committee of eight members has been organizing the event. One member, Sharpsburg resident Kelly Johnson, daughter of zoo owners Richard and Mary Anne Hahn, fake louis vuitton bags, said while there have been numerous fundraisers for the zoo, louis vuitton uk, having this type of fundraiser was the idea of a friend, mulberry factory shop, planning committee member Nancy Luse.
Frederick resident Luse said she thought of one particular episode when the show's main character, moncler jackets, Carrie, was in a fashion show, during which she tripped and was called "fashion road kill."
"Carrie and her friends went to fashion shows and it's always fun," Luse said.
Luse took the fashion show concept a step further and actually put zoo animals in it, combining her other passion.
"What I really like is it's small town, louis vuitton online store, but it's exotic," she said. "It's hard to believe we have this little acreage in our county."
Johnson said the zoo's animals include bears, lions, monkeys, ugg australia uk, tigers, alligators, snakes and meerkats, as well as endangered species like macaques, a primate that is exhibited nowhere else in North America, mulberry outlet york, according to Johnson.
According to a press release, the zoo provides homes to 650 animals from around the world, and operating costs total more than $1 million a year.
"No (government) funding goes to the zoo,http://comment.ofqual.gov.uk/ritstest/uggbootsuk.php, whatsoever," said Johnson, who said the zoo was funded by admissions and donations.
The zoo opened as a snake farm in 1933 and was purchased by Johnson's father in 1966. It currently sees more than 10,000 students and 70,000 visitors a year.
Because it's a wildlife preserve, the zoo's board has also helped organizations outside of the zoo, like a frog sanctuary in Costa Rica.
"If you understand something, you start to care about it," Johnson said.
Zoo La La planning committee member Dee Dolan, of Frederick, said she enjoys visiting the zoo with her grandchildren.
"You don't just have an encounter with an animal. You have a whole appreciation, where people can ask questions, christian louboutin sale uk," Dolan said.
An appreciation is one reason for animals themselves being part of Zoo La La, to which zoo staff will transport them via trailers. Johnson said these animals will include a camel, a zebra, macaques, a snake, a monkey and an owl or a hawk.
"We're hoping that animals will fly across the audience to start the show," Johnson said.
In the fashion show, the models will wear clothes from Frederick boutiques Velvet Lounge, Alicia L Boutique and Aspire Boutique. Hair and makeup will be done by Belleza Hair and Nail Studio of Frederick.
The planning committee members described the modeled fashions as eclectic, animal themed and for entertainment purposes, rather than something a person would select for day to day wear.
Zoo La La will also feature a live auction announced by Walkersville resident Bob Hahn, who has no relation to the Hahns who own the zoo. Hahn will auction off quilts, riding lessons, "the human margarita machine, moncler jacket," jewelry, clothing, a makeover and a zoo Adventure Package that includes admission, a safari ride and a camel ride.
The main entertainment for the evening will be a performance by the Frederick Divas,http://comment.ofqual.gov.uk/ritstest/louboutinuk.php, a drag queen organization. Music will be provided by DJ Nicole Shew of Shew sical Entertainment Services.
The committee members said they are hoping this will become an annual event that will grow over the years.
